Overcoming Blank Page Anxiety

Every musician or artist will recognise this. You finally get the time, money, or whatever you need to create, you have everything at your hands and then, there is it, the most daunting thing in the world, THE BLANK PAGE…. And then you don’t know where to start, even when you have a head full of ideas-… Nothing seems to work, or feels good enough, so to we are going to embark on a journey to break free from the fear and unleash your creativity."

The fear of the blank page is universal. It's that moment of uncertainty, questioning if your ideas are good enough. But remember, every masterpiece started with a single note.

Don’t seek perfection

Embrace imperfection as part of the creative process. Let your ideas flow without self-judgment, knowing that every draft is a step towards greatness. And you can’t learn of get better without doing.

And remember some of the biggest records have been just a demo, think of Satisfaction from the Stones, of the whole For Emma album from Bon Ives, these where all intended as Demo’s and contain mistakes but that is what gives live to the records.

First steps

Begin with just a simple chord progression, a melody, rhythm or even a loop. Starting small can make the creative process more manageable and less overwhelming.

Create Routine

Establish a creative routine. Set aside dedicated time each day to explore new ideas. Consistency fosters a comfortable space for creativity to flourish. And if not comes, then nothing comes, you get back on the horse the next day.

Embrace the deadline

A deadline is sometimes really daunting, especially when being a creative. but a lot of times to closer you get to it, the easier it is to work, you let some boundaries go, and let everything flow.

Go out and collab

Being a composer / musician can be a very lonely job sometimes, so Break the isolation by collaborating with fellow musicians. Sharing your ideas not only provides valuable feedback but also sparks new inspiration. Together, you can overcome the blank page.

Experiment with Genres

Explore different genres and styles. Breaking out of your comfort zone can open up new avenues of creativity, helping you discover unique sounds and ideas. This does not mean you have to create a classical rap album when you are a Folk electro—artist, but just listen to how chord progression or song structures are in other genres and see how you can use that in your style and get inspired by that.
